Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) plays a flawed but well-meaning father in this heartfelt Apple TV comedy. Despite having the quintessential sitcom nosey neighbor trope in veteran actress Christa Miller (Scrubs, The Drew Carey Show), Shrinking sets itself apart from other comedies. Segel plays Jimmy, a psychiatrist who works in a practice alongside his coworker played by Jessica Williams (Love Life, Dope Queens), and boss Paul, played by the great Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones, Star Wars). Seeing Ford take this comedic television role at this stage in his career is an absolute delight. He is great for a reason, and that alone is reason to watch Shrinking, but audiences will also find that the series brings charm and humor to serious topics of aging, loss, change and mental health.

Squid Game is a Korean series that breaks the mold of an action drama and sets the standard for storytelling. Be warned, Squid Game is extremely violent. Its premise pits people against each other in a series of children’s games reimagined so they are deadly in hopes that the last person standing will win immeasurable wealth. However, each episode has a gripping backstory of a character that reveals the layers of what brought them to the moment and emphasizes their humanity. The result of the flashbacks, the nostalgia and the violence, leaves audiences with an engrossing character-driven show.
